Canadian Bill That Would Restricted Protesters’ Freedom of Expression

Elon Musk, CEO of Twitter, Responds to a Proposed Canadian Bill That Would Restricted Protesters’ Freedom of Expression

Elon Musk, chief executive officer of Twitter and owner of Tesla and SpaceX, has lately been in the news for his response to a proposed transgender bill in the Canadian province of Ontario. The legislation, which is known as the “Keeping 2SLGBTQI+ Communities Safe Act, 2023,” was proposed by the New Democratic Party (NDP). It has been condemned for having the potential to restrict the protestors’ freedom of speech.

The Response of Musk

The Twitter account known as “End Wokeness” posted about the Ontario law a week ago. The measure would prevent protestors from getting within 100 meters of drag queen story times or other recognized activities. The content of the tweet was as follows: “Holy s***, New bill would criminalize protests and offensive remarks in parts of Canada.” In response to this, Musk just commented with a “!” under the first post to show his disapproval.

The proposed legislation has received a great deal of backlash, with some individuals claiming that it is an effort to mainstream “institutionalized grooming.” According to the statute, those who are found to have committed acts of “intimidation” during such gatherings would be subject to a punishment of up to $25,000. David Freiheit, a conservative journalist and lawyer from Canada who goes by the internet moniker “Viva Frei,” has remarked that “forcing drag shows on children, then proposing legislation to restrict criticism of drag shows for children… This is what it looks like when grooming is done in an institutional setting.

Existing Legislation That Is Quite Analogous

Laws like Bill 94 go a step further and have already been implemented in several Canadian communities like Calgary. While Canada’s Criminal Code already prohibits all sorts of “hate speech,” these laws take it a step further. The left-leaning mayor of Calgary, Jyti Gondek, was responsible for the passage of a new “Safe and Inclusive Access Bylaw” that prohibits “specified protests” against drag queen and LGBT activities, particularly those that are aimed at children, both inside and outside of all city-owned and connected public facilities in Calgary.

In practice, the bylaw implies that ministers or worried parents who want to demonstrate against pro-LGBT activities at public facilities will be prohibited from coming within 100 meters of any site that falls under this category. Derek Reimer, a Christian pastor, was kicked out of a Calgary public library just one month ago after opposing a drag queen story hour during which he taught that “homosexuality is a sin.” The incident was covered by LifeSiteNews.

A Possibility of Backfiring

Chris Elston, a father from Canada who is an activist seeking to expose the fanaticism of the transgender movement and the hazards of “sex changes” for children, has criticized the proposed Ontario Bill 94 as something that “will backfire spectacularly” should it be implemented. Elston’s mission is to warn parents about the risks of allowing their children to undergo “sex changes.”

It is not known what Musk’s view is on transgenderism; nevertheless, he has stated in the past that elite schools and colleges in the United States who teach “full-on communism” should be responsible for his estrangement from his 18-year-old son Xavier, who now claims to be a woman and goes by the name Vivian. In the year 2020, Musk expressed his support for transgender people in a tweet by writing, “I absolutely support trans, but all these pronouns are an esthetic nightmare.”

A Few Parting Thoughts

Even though the measure has not yet been voted into law, it has already been met with a great deal of controversy and condemnation. It is a touchy subject, and opinions are split on whether or not the freedom of expression of demonstrators should be restricted during LGBTQ events. It’s possible that this scenario will continue to garner notice and spark discussion in the future.
