The Untold Truth

Is the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals Summit in New York City a Global Diplomatic Vanity Fair?

So, here we are, folks, at the UN Summit, where the world’s leaders gather for what some might call a global diplomatic “Vanity Fair.” With a sparse showing of world leaders and the SDGs struggling to stay on course, it’s almost like watching a reality TV show where the contestants forgot their lines. But hey, at least we have a front-row seat to this remarkable spectacle. More on this below. Keep reading.

The 2023 Sustainable Development Goals Summit in New York City

In recent times, United Nations globalists convened in New York City for the 2023 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Summit, a pivotal event aimed at crafting an “urgent plan” to rescue Agenda 2030. UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed grave concerns, asserting that this globalist initiative is “in peril.”

The Midpoint of Agenda 2030: A Critical Juncture

As we find ourselves in 2023, it’s worth noting that Agenda 2030 officially commenced on January 1, 2016. According to a summary statement published on the UN’s official website, “But the Agenda is a promise, not a guarantee. At the halftime mark, the promise is in deep peril. For the first time in decades, development progress is reversing…”

The Urgent Call for a Global Rescue Plan

During his address at the summit, Secretary-General Guterres underscored the gravity of the situation, stating, “Today, only 15% of the targets are on track, with many going into reverse.” In response to this alarming trend, he issued a clarion call for a “global rescue plan” to salvage the SDGs from the brink of failure.

Challenges and Questions Surrounding the Summit

Before the summit commenced, Guterres engaged in an interview with Mita Hosali, the Deputy Director of UN News. Hosali’s pointed question about the participation of world leaders, especially from the P5 nations, raised significant concerns. The P5, comprising permanent members of the Security Council, plays a pivotal role in global diplomacy. However, only one head of state, Joe Biden, from the P5 nations attended the summit.

Diminishing Diplomacy: A Cause for Concern

This raises a pertinent question: is the United Nations, once considered a cornerstone of diplomacy, losing its relevance? The limited attendance of world leaders, coupled with the challenges faced by Agenda 2030 and the SDGs, paints a worrisome picture.

World Leaders or Unelected Figures?

Moreover, it’s essential to examine the legitimacy of the term “world leaders” when applied to the attendees. Are these individuals truly elected leaders, or do they represent unelected figures within the global landscape? Guterres, in response to this line of inquiry, emphasized that the summit is not a mere “vanity fair.” However, many still question the legitimacy of the proceedings.

A Harsh Reality: SDGs Not Moving Forward

In closing, Secretary-General Guterres candidly admitted that “unfortunately,” the SDGs are currently “not moving in the right direction.” While this admission may be disheartening for some, it also underscores the need for a concerted global effort to rejuvenate and propel Agenda 2030 towards its intended objectives.
