New Years Resolution of Adventure, Explore and Discover

Once Upon a Time, there was a time machine…

Yes a time machine. Past, Present, Future. Adventure, Explore and Discover. Step back or step forward into the golden age, or imagine right now, this week, what you are doing differently. What kind of resolution do you have in mind?

Abraham Lincoln once upon a time said something like this, “Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.” Of course we are not doing the double trouble of the Ontario and federal government double agent PsyOp advertising and misquoting people like Ronald Reagan to totally destroy any chances of having reasonable civilized diplomatic discourse. Since the key word is resolution, we are talking about resolutions not revolutions, for more awesome quality of life, that includes adventure, outdoors, explore, discover, enjoy, pure awesomeness. Self education, a robust and resilient physical and mental health, perseverance and ethics, in every step, every action, every thought, keep going forward step by step.

If anyone goes walking out in the woods and gets arrested and fined, please send me the ticket, I will look after it, and yes, you may get a really big refund, and compensation for your annoyance of dealing with communists and techno control freaks, I am not only the Ministry of Opinion, also the Ministry of Adventure, and yes Canada’s real minister of National Defence, I confess, yes, let’s make a resolution to deal with that, as adults we can be diplomatic in ways other people can understand, so there is no more travel bans, by executive order and with the stroke of a pen, you know, the arsenal of democracy. The strength of your determination to do something is essential.

Yes, get some good hiking boots, do what you want, do your own research or not, get equipped and get outdoors. Go camping, bring illegal firearms or not, registered or not, bear pepper spray or now, a nice 35 mm camera and real film or not, hiking and camping gear, a compass. Practice using the compass, with a topography map. Do geolocating cache or hidden treasures, get in the best shape of your life. Have nutritious snacks, get equipped. Learn, Grow. Excel. Enoy nature, beauty, the awesomeness of creation, epic creation. Time out, sleep under the stars, get an aerial tent, sleep out in a boat, go sailing. Your choice to succeed requires purpose and planning. Awareness, and pro-active planning for success, in every endeavour. Paracord, rock climbing gear, survival gear and real comfortable high quality boots are useful.

Rock climbing, mountain climbing, ice climbing, buy equipment, start small, take classes, get in shape, the best shape of your life. Take pilot lessons, get your license, explore the world without limits. Go prospecting, collect rocks, crystals, learn about geology, prospecting. Learn about soil, gardening, greenhouse, raised bed gardens, grow food, some, it is your, high quality good nutrients food, zero bar code, zero GMO, zero pesticides and zero glyphosate, the bio-weapons of choice. Every challenge is a stepping stone to learning and growth. Get equipped, make a plan and keep going forward. specialized training, a coach, sporting outdoor group, really good friends and meet new people, primed for epic adventure. Enthusiasm for life and adventure. A road less travelled? How about few roads or no roads?

Get out of the city, away from microwave towers. Practice not having a cell phone or cell service, see if you can handle that. Be on the look out for bugs, not just surveillance bugs in your house and car, other dangerous bugs like ticks and annoying mosquitoes, find out what works, what to wear, do and not do. Get equipped, learn, keep away from poison oak, poison ivy and poison sumac and hogweed. Have remedies, have first aid supplies, calamine lotion works for poison sumac, fall camping in the woods or even a back yard can have its own hazards. I know, it happened to me, I never even knew there was such a thing as poison sumac, it could have been much worse, I tried many remedies. I was not aware of the danger, I learned. Be aware. If your are colour blind, be double aware, know your plants, have the right gear.

Yes, prepare to get away from it all and actually do it, real freedom, with your name on it. Trust yourself to test yourself, awareness, planning, practice, preparation, review and reflect, learn from your experiences and keep going forward into adventure, jump in with both feet. The brave new world, is outdoors in nature. You on the epic adventure, to a place called freedom and happiness. Topography maps and compass experience is awesome. On the Comox glacier in a huge cloud, seeing was difficult, I navigated the group back to are place of ascent, after lone tree pass and black cat mountain or whatever it was called. A life saver, otherwise, 4,000 feet down to century sam lake, a bit of a dive. Navigate your way.

Yes, go to a resort, rent a cottage, go boating, it can be simple, learn sailing, experience the wind on your face, the sunlight on your skin, into your soul. More fresh air. Yes, get chlorine dioxide, or activated charcoal to purify water or anything else, use a distiller, be a smart camper, if you want to car camping is ok, and ok to step away from all that. Yes, camp in your own backyard if you have one. Practice practice practice. Buy a tent, self inflating foam sleeping pad, a dome tent or whatever you like. Enjoy everything, rain or shine. Know your gear, use your gear, replace as required, improve, modify or customize.

Every sport has its own challenges, where awareness and planning is important, different hazards exist. Inner cotton socks and outer wool socks are excellent for hiking, and leather is better than many synthetic materials so you feet can breath, however, you decide, you make decisions, keep making decisions, its a lot less stress than others making them for you, learn and grow, freedom of choice, the acceptance of personal responsibility. Put your feet on the ground, you will be grounded and down to earth, some people try those earther shoes, for grounding, and there is excellent footwear that enables your foot muscles to be stronger, giving you more agility, mobility and endurance. Have the right boots for the occasion.

Even snow camping is cool, the thrill of sleeping under the coniferous trees, in the protected zone is awesome, the element of security and peace. It really is awesome, even snow camping, it takes good equipment, energizing nutritious food, a good nights sleep ready for more adventure. Portable cooking gear is essential, compact kits exist, research and invest, work with it. An expedition mountain backpack, or a day hike pack is a huge difference, be prepared for almost anything, and being able to secure your load, utensils and fast access to gear or supplies is a good idea. Practice and go do it. find what works. Make the best of it.

Set up motion detectors or aerial tent if you are worried about this and that, and don’t leave food and garbage out, it can be smelled for a long way. A good tent will have a full length tent fly, preferably with inner door and screen windows, not screened sections with no zipper window and doors, so you can have an extra buffer for cold wind, snow, rain or ice. No golden dome, you need a domed tent. Not everything you buy at the store is good, look into it, research it. Yes many tents have screen roofs and no inner zippered panels.Even a sponge os useful for wiping down a tent and fly after the rain, to lighten the load and dry things out faster.

A mini torch lighter, cotton balls and vaseline for fire starter and striker tools are good ideas, knife and sharpening stone, and yes a survival knife and everyday sharp kitchen knife and utensils are good, along with a copper water bottle or thermos.  Yes, there are portable ovens and solar cookers and rocket stoves, all kinds of things to look into and find out about and actually acquire and use. A hatchet is also useful, other camping tools, compression style  water containers, mirror, emergency reflective heat blankets.

A really good back pack is essential. I have a digital camouflage internal stealth framed pack with waterproof materials, strapping and secure units, padded belt and high quality clicker nicker connectors. Walking around is not only if you are in The Canadian Armed Forces. Try it, fifty pounds, a hundred pounds, the gear you want to bring and what you really need. Short trips, or bigger expeditions, the right gear and experience with it is important. Frame and frames, that is the question, everyone is different and many details and design elements exist in both or all of them.

Even things like a hot rock or brick or hot water bottle to keep your feet and body toasty in a sleeping bag may make all the difference in higher elevation mountains or snow camping. . It did for me on the Comox Glacier a long time ago. sleeping bag ratings are questionable. Verify it, try it out. It is amazing how warm someone can be with a wool hat and hoodie, and good sleeping bag. I have the military goose down double bag system and digital canpat camoflage bivey bag. there are also synthetic materials also, all with baffled heavy duty metal zippers, and loft. those self inflating sleeping pads are really useful, along with tie straps. Be prepared. Getting in shape takes time. Make goals and achieve them. get in shape and stay in shape, combat ready, survival ready, adventure ready.

Profound tranquility and happiness, miles and miles of snow and trees…
