Maxime Bernier Slams Transgender Activism Targeting Kids in Canada

Maxime Bernier, the leader of Canada’s People’s Party, has condemned what he calls “transgender madness,” which is being aimed at children across the country. He also criticized the Conservative Party of Canada’s silence on this issue. In a newsletter sent to his supporters on April 7th, Bernier highlighted that “transgender madness” had gained momentum over the past few months. “Radical trans activists have been pushing their agenda to normalize transgenderism, especially among children, and they are not being opposed by governments, but rather protected by them,” wrote Bernier.

Bernier’s views were supported when the New Democratic Party (NDP) of Ontario introduced a bill known as the “Keeping 2SLGBTQI+ Communities Safe Act, 2023.” This bill, if passed, will prohibit anyone from protesting within 100 meters of drag queen storytimes or other 2SLGBTQI+ designated events, with fines of up to $25,000 for intimidation. The press conference for the introduction of the bill included many transgender activists standing alongside children, which Bernier found concerning.

Bernier is concerned that while transgenderism is being promoted by politicians, Canadians who oppose this ideology’s targeting of children are being attacked by activists. Recently, at a “Transgender Day of Visibility” rally in Vancouver, a Canadian father, Chris Elston, was assaulted for opposing gender ideology. Similarly, Calgary pastor Derek Reimer was jailed twice and charged for protesting a children’s drag queen story hour at a public library, during which he was assaulted.

Bernier believes that there is a need for a “voice of reason” in Parliament to oppose transgender madness. He criticized the Conservative Party of Canada under its leader, Pierre Poilievre, for doing “absolutely nothing to push back on this disturbing trend.” Bernier accused some CPC MPs of having quietly signaled to the trans activists that they are on their side.
